Your domain name is often the first thing people see about your business, and changing it later is a hassle. A little thought up front goes a long way.
Tips for a great domain name
- Keep it short. Shorter names are easier to remember and harder to mistype.
- Make it easy to say out loud. If you have to spell it every time you tell someone, keep looking.
- Skip hyphens and numbers. They’re easy to forget and easy to get wrong.
- Choose .com when you can. It’s still what most people type by default. A local or industry ending can work well too.
- Think long term. A name tied to one product or one town can box you in if your business grows.
- Check for trademarks so you don’t build a brand on a name someone else owns.
Protect your name
Turn on auto-renew so your domain never expires by accident, and keep your account email up to date. Consider registering common misspellings, or other endings, to keep someone else from grabbing them.
